How to Import Aluminum Honeycomb Panels from China: A Sourcing Guide

Practical guide for importers sourcing aluminum honeycomb panels from China: specifications, pricing, QC and shipping.

Sourcing Aluminum Honeycomb Panels from China: What Buyers Should Know

Aluminum honeycomb panels combine extreme flatness, light weight and high stiffness, which makes them a favorite for feature walls, elevator interiors, marine fit-outs and commercial facades. China is the world’s largest producer, but sourcing them successfully requires understanding specifications, QC and logistics. Here is a practical guide for first-time importers.

1. Define Your Specifications Up Front

Before requesting quotes, lock down: panel dimensions (standard 1220×2440mm or custom), aluminum skin thickness (typically 0.5–1.0mm), core alloy (3003 or 5052), finish (PVDF, polyester, or natural anodized), and face coating color. Panels with unspecified skin thickness are the most common source of quality disputes.

2. Understand the Price Drivers

Price is driven mainly by aluminum alloy price, skin thickness, finish and quantity. PVDF coating commands a premium over polyester but is essential for exterior applications. For interior walls, SPC aluminum honeycomb panels (with a stone-powder face) offer the look of natural stone at a lower cost.

3. QC Before Shipment

Always arrange a pre-shipment inspection (third-party or your own agent) to check: flatness, skin bonding, color consistency against your approved swatch, edge finishing, and packaging. Panels are usually packed in wooden crates with foam protection — damaged packaging often means scratched faces on arrival.

4. Shipping and Customs

Full 20GP or 40HQ containers are the most economical. Panels are bulky but light, so most shipments are volumetric. Confirm HS code (typically 7610 for aluminum structures) and ask your supplier for a proforma invoice, packing list and bill of lading template. Duty rates vary by destination — check with your customs broker before ordering.

Getting Started

Request sample swatches from 2–3 factories first, compare finish and flatness, then place a small trial order before committing to a full container. STARLEADER exports aluminum honeycomb and SPC honeycomb panels worldwide and can provide EPDs, sample kits and pre-shipment inspection support on request.
